Healthy Lifestyle Resources

Trustworthy Lifestyle Guides

One of the primary goals for is to introduce you to some trustworthy sources of information on healthy lifestyle, and then to encourage you to use them to better understand the power of lifestyle. If that happens, I will consider this time well spent.

There are so many great resources available to help us understand the importance that our lifestyle has in determining our health and happiness. I’ve explored multiple websites, reviewed dozens of plans, watched many documentaries, and heard countless secrets revealed.

But if I had to pick the best of the best, here would be my suggestions for resources to explore:

Top Website: This website has thousands of free, evidence based videos about the science behind healthy and not so healthy lifestyle choices. All thanks to Dr Michael Greger and his team. Here is a great example of one of Dr Greger’s informative videos: Why You Should Care About Nutrition. Be sure to also check out Dr Greger’s How Not to Die and How Not to Diet books and cookbooks, as well as his Daily Dozen App.

Best Plan (and Books): The Alzheimer’s Solution

If you’re looking for a complete lifestyle plan to start with, consider the NEURO PLAN Academy developed be Drs. Dean and Ayesha Sherzai, authors of The Alzheimer’s Solution and The 30 Day Alzheimer’s Solution books. The NEURO PLAN App is free and gives you a taste of the full program. Their books are excellent guides to the lifestyle problems that greatly increase our risk for dementia like Alzheimer’s Disease and how to make changes proven to decrease our risk of developing this tragic condition, and in many cases slow or improve the symptoms. Since what is good for the brain is also good for the rest of our body, these are great resources for an overall healthy lifestyle. Here is a quick introductory video about The NEURO PLAN. Here is a longer video, Preserving Brain Health: Impact of Nutrition on Alzheimer’s presented by Dean and Ayesha Sherzai.

Most Inspiring Documentary: Forks Over  Knives

Forks Over Knives: This classic documentary (and now a complete plant based support program) follows the journey of several people as they discover how adopting a whole foods plant based diet as the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle can treat many common medical conditions. It also tells the story of two of the pioneers in plant based nutrition research, T. Colin Campbell, PhD who wrote The China Study, and Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., MD author of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease. Watch the Forks Over Knives trailer now. I’ll suggest that you watch the whole movie, or one of the other options, when we explore the Healthiest Lifestyle page. They cost just a few dollars to watch (or they might be free if you have a service like Netflix). Here is another short video you might enjoy. Listen as Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams tells his story of how he learned about the importance of a plant based diet and reversed his diabetes using one of the Forks Over Knives books.

Favorite Secrets: The Blue Zones

The Blue Zones books and website provide a fascinating look at some communities that are doing health and happiness right. The Blue Zones and The Blue Zones of Happiness books by Dan Buettner explore the secrets of the longest living and happiest cultures in the world. The website, inspired by the world’s longest-lived cultures, strives to help people live longer, better lives by improving their environment. Below are two TED Talks by Dan Buettner: How to live to be 100+ and The Blue Zones of Happiness.

I hope you have enjoyed getting to know each of these excellent resources. And that you are inspired to use at least one or two of them more in the future. I trust you’ll find the next page very informative as well, Lifestyle and Chronic Disease.

A more complete collection of resources can be found on the Lifestyle Resource page.

See you again soon.
